Why Immunization?
Getting immunized with vaccines is a key step to preventing serious illnesses from disease. People over 65 years or who have compromised immune systems are at even greater risk of getting very sick. UPIHC has partnered with Salt Lake County Health Department and US Aging to provide immunization services to the community.
Recommended Immunizations
Seasonal Flu (Influenza)
Get by the end of October or soon after, every year.
COVID-19
If you have not gotten a COVID-19 vaccine since last fall, you should get one now.
Covid-19 vaccines are now updated to protect against newer strains of the virus.
If you are over age 65 or immunocompromised, you may want an extra shot about 4 months after your last one.
Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis) (over age 7)
Get TDAP or tetanus booster every ten years after an initial shot.
Ages 50 & Older should consider the following:
Shingles (Get 2 doses within 2 to 6 months)
Pneumonia (1-2 doses one year a part depending on your age & whether you have already had 1 dose.)
RSV
We encourage you to talk to your healthcare professional to find out more about which immunizations are recommended for you.
Side Effects
Hundreds of millions of Americans have safely received seasonal flu and COVID-19 vaccines. Flu and COVID-19 vaccines do not cause diseases.
Vaccines can have side effects, but most people experience only mild side effects—if any—after vaccination.
The most common side effects are fever, tiredness, body aches, or redness, swelling, and tenderness where the shot was given.
Mild reactions usually go away on their own within a few days. Serious or long-lasting side effects are extremely rare, and vaccine safety is continually monitored.
